Elizabeth Dowell has been a professional educator since 2003. She began her career teaching English in Suzhou, China. After a year, she moved on to the University of Melbourne in Australia to study primary education and child development. There she learned that content, rather than basic skills, were her true passion. Returning to her hometown of Portland, OR, she obtained her BA in Anthropology and Geography with minors in English and History. During those years she also worked as a resident camp director creating inclusive experiential education programs for children and staff.
In 2012, she earned her Master of Education from PSU and began teaching high school Social Studies (Geography, World History, US History, Political Science, Economics, Anthropology) including several AP courses and electives. She taught in fully virtual, blended, and in-person schools during those years and has continued to lead workshops and professional development on teaching and technology in education.
Elizabeth is committed to cultivating inquiry and curiosity in students. She believes students are far more than the test scores and letter grades they are too often defined by.
She is dedicated to helping students develop the skills and knowledge needed for the 21st century, for the world they live in, and the future they will create.
